The Wild Robot — the Best Animated Feature Oscar nominee starring the voice of Lupita Nyong’o — is coming soon to streaming on Netflix.
Based on the bestselling children’s book by Peter Brown, The Wild Robot was originally released in theaters on Sept. 27, 2024. The film follows the robot unit named Roz (Nyong’o), which must navigate the unfamiliar surroundings of an island populated by wild animals after its crate crashes ashore following a shipwreck.
When Roz discovers an orphaned egg — which hatches a chick named Brightbill (voice of Kit Connor) — a bond is immediately formed as the young bird treats Roz like his mother. However, to the rest of the animals on the island, including a fox named Fink (voice of Pedro Pascal), Roz is viewed as a stranger in a strange land.
The Wild Robot also stars the voices of Mark Hamill, Catherine O’Hara, Ving Rhames, Stephanie Hsu, Matt Berry and Bill Nighy.
The Wild Robot is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on Saturday, May, 24, per When to Stream.

The film is currently available for purchase or rent on digital streaming is streaming on the Peacock subscription service.
‘The Wild Robot’ Was Nominated For 3 Oscars
The Wild Robot was honored with various nominations and wins during awards season this year.
In addition to its Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature at the 2025 Academy Awards, the film was up for Oscars for Best Sound for Randy Thom, Brian Chumney, Gary A. Rizzov and Leff Lefferts, as well as Best Original Score for Kris Bowers.
In addition, The Wild Robot won Best Animated Feature awards from the Producers Guild of America, the Critics Choice Awards and the Annie Awards, as was nominated for Best Animated Feature by the Golden Globes, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards and the NAACP Image Awards.
In addition, The Wild Robot received a 96% “fresh” rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 247 reviews and audiences gave it a 98% “fresh” score on RT’s Popcornmeter based on 5,000-plus verified user ratings.
The Wild Robot was a big hit in theaters, earning $143.9 million domestically and $190.1 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $334 million against a $78 million production budget before prints and advertising costs, per The Numbers.
Rated PG, The Wild Robot arrives on Netflix on May 24.
