Changing Children’s Lives: Parenta Trust Opens Its 6th Pre-School In Eastern Africa

Over 230 additional children to receive an early years education in Rwanda each year

The Parenta Trust, the Charitable arm of the Parenta Group of Companies. is proud to announce the opening of its 6th pre-school, the Wisdom Nursery School, in Rwanda. This milestone reflects the Trust’s ongoing commitment to providing quality early years education for orphaned and disadvantaged children, across Eastern Africa.

This achievement stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication of Parenta Trust supporters and the late Nigel Hutchings, whose fundraising efforts, over recent years went towards making this vision a reality. Nigel sadly passed away in April 2024, and the school was opened in his honour.

The Wisdom Nursery School is in a rural Rwandan community where poverty forces many children into early labour in stone quarries and sugarcane plantations. Partnering with international development organisation Fields of Life and the Anglican Church of Rwanda, Parenta Trust aims to empower the local community and break this cycle of poverty by providing quality education and support to over 200 children each year.

Dr. Allan Presland, founder of the Parenta Trust and Chairman of the Parenta Group of Companies, commented:

“It’s been a difficult few years of fundraising, however, our commitment and that of our supporters to provide education to children in disadvantaged communities has only grown stronger. With this new school, we will be positively impacting the lives of even more children, giving them the tools they need to succeed and thrive.”

Remembering fund-raiser Nigel Hutchings, he said;

“Nigel was an inspiration to us all. His generosity, determination, and love for not just this cause, but education as a whole, for disadvantaged children, touched countless lives. The opening of the Wisdom Nursery School is a fitting tribute to his legacy, ensuring his impact endures through the lives of children who will benefit from this education.”

The school was officially opened in a heartfelt ceremony featuring the local church, local dignitaries and community members. The event marked both a celebration of hope and a moment of reflection on the power of collective action to overcome barriers to education. Parenta Trust has a proven track record of building and developing schools in Eastern Africa, with the existing five schools looking after and educating up to 1,200 children at any one time.
