Fox News: Comer's Doocy suggestion 'insulting'

Fox News is pushing back on a claim from House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) in a new book suggesting he was covered unfairly by the network for upsetting a member of the Doocy family.

Comer wrote about the House inquiry into President Biden’s son Hunter’s business dealings that he led as part of his new book, excerpts of which were shared with reporter Oliver Darcy.

In the book, Comer references an episode during which he was presented a heavily redacted document by an FBI employee who is the daughter of Fox News host Steve Doocy and brother of White House correspondent Peter Doocy.

Comer’s rejection of the document “seemed to piss” off Doocy’s daughter, he said.

“Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but her father, ‘Fox & Friends’ host Steve Doocy, and her brother, Fox White House correspondent Peter Doocy, would soon become my biggest critics on Fox News for the remainder of the investigation,” Comer writes in the book. “And they didn’t let up off camera either. Many of the White House videos criticizing me, and many of the legacy media outlets’ false narratives citing disparaging comments about me and the investigation, were from the Doocys.”

Fox News in a statement to The Hill on Tuesday morning pushed back on Comer’s characterization of their coverage.

“The first time Steve Doocy and Peter Doocy were even made aware of what took place in the SCIF with James Comer was tonight when they saw this book excerpt which speaks volumes about how scrupulous they are and the high ethical bar their family operates with,” the network said. “Suffice it to say Comer’s attack is off base and insulting.”

Comer separately wrote journalist Bob Woodward called President Biden “corrupt,” a claim the journalist also denied this week.
