Masters: Bryson DeChambeau does best Paul Bunyan impression, leads at Augusta

Bryson DeChambeau did a lot on Friday at The Masters. From his air traffic control signals early on in the round to him carrying a giant post like Paul Bunyan, he stole the show.

His personality was on full display as he went on to sign for a 1-over 73 and sit at 6-under in the tournament.

The wind conditions gave him trouble all day as he tallied three birdies and four bogeys.

“I’ve never experienced Augusta National in these conditions before,” DeChambeau said. “Being able to stay patient and place the ball in the correct locations and just allow myself to be okay with not-so-great shots out there was a key aspect of me playing well.”

DeChambeau came into Augusta with his newly designed irons and has looked comfortable the past two days. He will head into the weekend tied with World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Max Homa at the top of the leaderboard.

“I get an opportunity to show my skill set, and hopefully, it’s good enough to do something special this weekend,” he said. “I feel like the game is in a great spot. Mindset is in a solid place. Caddie is keeping me in check. We’re joking out there, having fun in some tough conditions. So, I feel like everything is lining up pretty well.”

While his play continued to be among the best at The Masters this week, it was his Paul Bunyan skills on 13 that caught everyone’s attention.

Fans captured photos of him carrying a signpost and let the jokes roll. These reactions will surely remind you what it’s like when DeChambeau is in contention.

“Content Jesus” is hilarious because DeChambeau is highly active on social media. He’s constantly creating content on TikTok and YouTube, growing his brand.

Medieval punishment was another punchline for patrons.

Regardless of whether someone likes DeChambeau or not, he is entertaining. The former SMU golfer knows how to draw attention and got plenty of it on Friday.

He gave fans at home and on the property something to talk about besides Jason Day’s clothing.
