Natasha Lyonne to Star in Adaptation of Joe Hill’s Basketful of Heads

The seven-issue comic book series Basketful of Heads written by Joe Hill and illustrated by Leomacs, will be getting a feature adaptation with Poker Face star Natasha Lyonne (pictured above) acting and producing.

According to Deadline, Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night) will direct from a script she’s also written. The project is financed by Bluestone Entertainment, with Akiva Goldsman (Star Trek: Picard) producing along with his colleagues Greg Lessans and Shiva Nassab at Weed Road. Lyonne will be producing via her company Animal Pictures along with Dannah Shinder and Max Ferguson.

Basketful of Heads is a horror comedy where a woman named June has an enchanted axe that causes the heads of every person she decapitates to continue talking, giving June a cacophony of voices hounding her as her kill count gets larger.

Lyonne told Deadline that she’s “thrilled to work with the ingenious auteur Ana Lily Amirpour on such beloved IP and so grateful that Akiva and Bluestone brought it to us at Animal to develop. This one’s gonna be a knockout!”

Amirpour added, “I’m very excited to team up with the wickedly funny and brilliant Natasha Lyonne to adapt this comic into a film. We’re going to bring to life a new type of antihero who gets pulled into a bizarre adventure that unleashes something inside her and turns her life inside out. It’s gonna be darkly funny, surreal and bloody as hell.”

The project is still in its early days, so no news yet on other casting or when it will go into production. icon-paragraph-end
