The president of New York University’s College Republicans chapter resigned after she said in a media interview that Barron Trump was “sort of an oddity on campus.”

College Republicans of America posted on X Monday that Kaya Walker resigned after controversy broke out due to an interview she did with Vanity Fair where she said President Trump’s son was “sort of like an oddity on campus.”

“He goes to class, he goes home,” she told the outlet, adding a professor joked that Barron Trump “doesn’t really belong here.”

The national group said Walker’s comments do not “align with the values and principles upheld by our organization.”

While College Republicans believe Vanity Fair twisted Walker’s words, “we still found it to be inappropriate. The NYU chapter President submitted her resignation last night.”

Barron Trump is known for staying out of the political spotlight but the president and first lady have credited him with helping his father connect with younger audiences during his presidential campaign, including by offering advice on which podcasts to go on.

College Republicans of America President Will Donahue in a statement invited Barron Trump to join their organization.

“Barron Trump represents the future of the conservative movement, and we would be honored to have him join College Republicans of America,” Donahue said.

“Strong leadership is built on resilience, courage, and the humility to rise above petty hostility — qualities that Barron has already demonstrated. We invite Barron to join us in shaping the future of our party,” he added.
