Real Madrid Coach Ancelotti Confirms Exit And Brazil Switch

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that he will leave the club and become the new manager of the Brazil national team at a press conference to preview his current employer’s La Liga clash with Mallorca.

In the fallout from Madrid’s 4-3 to defeat to bitter rival FC Barcelona in El Clasico, reports spread that Xabi Alonso will succeed Ancelotti in the Bernabeu dugout.

A few hours later, similar news broke regarding Ancelotti taking over the reins of five time World Cup winner Brazil, which was then announced by the CBF’s president Ednaldo Rodrigues.

On Tuesday afternoon, at a press conference to preview a Wednesday night clash with Mallorca, Ancelotti then spoke on the matter himself and confirmed the development.

“From the 26th [of May]

I’ll be the coach of Brazil, but I’m still the coach of Real Madrid and I want to end this adventure in the best possible way. Because of the great respect I have for the club, fans, and players, I’m completely focused on this final stretch,” Ancelotti first said.

“Real Madrid will release the statement whenever they want; there’s no problem, there’s nothing further to add. What I discuss with the club is absolutely personal [i.e. private].”

Ancelotti noted that “like everything in life, everything comes to an end”.

“On May 25th, a period in which I’ve had a great time will come to an end, and I want to finish it on a high note. I’ve never had a problem with the club and I never will. I have it in my heart and I always will,” he vowed.

Despite FC Barcelona looking set to complete a domestic treble, Ancelotti denied being frustrated with coming up short in 2024/2025 save for the UEFA Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup.

“Frustration no. If the day I came here they told me that I would win 11 titles in four years, I would sign it in blood. It has been an unforgettable period,” he quipped.

No regrets at Real Madrid from Ancelotti

“I don’t regret anything. I’ve had a fantastic time here. I got the most out of what I could get out of it and the titles speak for themselves,” Ancelotti also remarked.

“I’m very happy, if I didn’t have the press conference today it would be a fantastic day, because I have to explain things that I don’t want to explain. I wanted to win the league and the Champions League but I’m very happy with what’s happening around me,” Ancelotti reiterated.

“I’ve never felt that Madrid didn’t want me. Real Madrid has always loved me and I couldn’t be the club’s coach all my life. It may be that the club needs a new impetus and we don’t have to make a drama out of this,” he insisted.
