There’s a new sci-fi thriller series in the works called Wunderland.
According to Variety, the show follows a young hacker named Cora Carter who enjoys spending time in a virtual reality gaming world called… Wunderland. The synopsis goes on to describe the conceit of the show:
The idea for the series comes from newcomer Christopher DeWan, who will write the pilot. The showrunner will be James Thorpe, who served as producer on shows like The 100 (pictured above), Wild Cards, and Motive, the last of which he created and showran. He also started out his career writing for the 1996 Highlander series, which starred Adrian Paul as the eternal Duncan MacLeod.
Showdog Studio is backing the project, with Thorpe serving as executive producer and John Attard producing.
“I love everything about Christopher’s story and the worlds he explores in Wunderland,” Attard said in a statement to Variety. “As we enter a new year, we are faced with the fact that our lives are constantly being challenged and transformed by technology. At the heart of every story about technology, however, is its impact on humanity. We are thrilled to be bringing James in as showrunner, and can’t wait to see the blurred lines between real and virtual in Wunderland come to life.”
The project is still in its early days, so no news on if/when Wunderland will go into production.
