While everyone’s been wondering about upcoming season of The Last of Us, a different PlayStation videogame adaptation has been quietly trucking along: Twisted Metal, which returns to Peacock later this year. The first teaser has the unexpected vibes of an Ink Master promo, with various characters posing against a vague background set while indistinctly aggressive music plays. There are a few action clips, though, to get the point across: Last season was maybe just a warmup for the tournament.
The synopsis says:
Following the revelations in the season one finale, John and Quiet find themselves entering the deadly Twisted Metal tournament, a sinister demolition derby hosted by a mysterious man known as Calypso. As they try to survive an onslaught of dangerous new foes and familiar faces alike, including the murderous clown Sweet Tooth, things get complicated for John when he reunites with his long-lost sister, the vigilante Dollface.
The second season of Twisted Metal stars Anthony Mackie as John Doe; Stephanie Beatriz as Quiet; Anthony Carrigan as Calypso, the tournament host; and the dynamic duo of Will Arnett and Joe Seanoa, aka Samoa Joe, as Sweet Tooth the clown. Tiana Okoye plays Dollface, and a handful of additional actors have joined the show in unspecified roles: Saylor Bell Curda, Lisa Gilroy, Richard de Klerk, Patty Guggenheim, and Michael James Shaw.
Twisted Metal, which has Cobra Kai writer Michael Jonathan Smith as writer and showrunner, kickstarts its engine sometime this summer.
