The internet is truly a wild place, especially when it comes to learning food hacks. We’ve shared this spice jar trick for easily seasoning your food, or this broccoli cutting trick that will save you from the “broccoli dust” mess. However, one of the most recent tricks that showed up on our newsfeeds might just be one of the most surprising ones we’ve ever seen: cooking a frozen egg.

No, we’re not talking about freezing hard-boiled eggs, which is something you can technically do. Instead, we’re talking about freezing the eggs before even cooking them. Place the eggs (shell and all) in the freezer. Then, when it’s time for breakfast, simply take out the egg, run it under warm water, then peel it. The uncooked egg retains that shape making it easy to slice. Then, with your little frozen egg slices, cook them in a pan with some butter and you have perfect little sunny-side up eggs for your morning toast.

Is this even safe to do? Yes, it is. As long as you make sure that the egg is fully cooked (the whites should be cooked and set, the yolk slightly cooked and set) then those little egg bites are perfectly safe to eat.

Obviously you don’t have to freeze your eggs: eggs can last in the fridge for up to three to five weeks. However, if you plan on traveling for a while and aren’t going to finish up the eggs in your fridge, you can pop them in the freezer to save for when you get back.
